Panko-Crusted Mahi Mahi with Wasabi Aioli, Quinoa, and Green Bean-Tomato Saute

I love Hello Fresh! We took a small break because of the holidays. Yesterday, when I saw that box on my porch…happiness…just happiness!!!

I always make the fish first. Just seems to make sense, it might go bad first. Once again, Hello Fresh did not disappoint! This meal was easy to make and delicious.

Blue Apron vs. Hello Fresh

A friend at work gave me a free trial code for Blue Apron. It was free, so I was game to try it out. If you don’t already know, I have a mild obsession with Hello Fresh. I figured it had to be the same or maybe better.

Packaging:
Hello Fresh wins on this one. Blue Apron puts everything into the box. The box itself was fine, but Hello Fresh separates everything! Hello Fresh sends 3 small boxes inside the big box. Each box contains all the ingredients (minus the protein) that you need to make each meal. I didn’t like have to fill my fridge with various produce and other items. Let’s face it, stuff can get lost in there!

Recipes:
While the recipe cards are very similar, the recipes themselves are not. My husband and I didn’t like any of the recipes. They weren’t awful, they just were not very good. Every single meal we had from Hello Fresh was amazing. Each time I wanted to keep the recipe card so I could make it again. The recipes from Blue Apron were just very bland but in an extravagant way…if that makes sense.

Easy of making the meals:
This was a tie. Both companies send recipes that involve prep work and take about 10 – 20 minutes to prepare….plus 15 – 20 minutes to cook.

Take a look at the pictures below. I wrote what each one is underneath. If any of this sounds good to you, then Blue Apron is for you. I can tell you that the pasta one was the worst one. I brought it to work for my friends to try. No one liked it. They kept asking me if I followed the recipe correctly! Of course I did…it just was not very good!

Pasta with fontina cheese, broccoli, and fennel.

I DO NOT work for Hello Fresh! I just think that the food was a lot better. The recipes were real food that real people eat. My girls tried and liked all the various meals we had from Hello Fresh. I couldn’t get any of them to try any of the Blue Apron meals.

If you are interested in trying Hello Fresh, here is a code to get $40 off your first box. You will not be disappointed!
