This past weekend Nicki participated in her first Science fair. It was a great experience…she loved it! They don’t do prizes or score the projects at her school. The entire event was very casual and upbeat. Visiting Scientists came and walked around to each project.
Nicki did fossils. Everyone kept asking her “why are you interested in fossils?” Truthfully, I just wanted to do something simple! We make salt dough all the time for different projects and I thought it would be easy! Before we did this, Nicki knew nothing about fossils. Now, she is an expert…well not really!
We got a lot of complements on her project. The key is to take pictures of everything and every step! A lot of the other projects had a lot of words and no pictures. Having a Marketing background, I know how important pictures are! People don’t generally read…people like pictures! So our board was filled with pictures!

Want to make fossils?
1 Cup Salt
2 Cups Flour
1 Cup Water
Food coloring. We actually used a sprinkle of dark coco powder and it worked great!
Combine all the ingredients. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Shape the dough into flat pancakes on a cookie sheet. Press whatever objects you choose into the dough to make an impression. Bake at 200 degrees for 2 hours.
